More info
Even a novice photographer or filmmaker has heard about lens hoods.
It is a must-have for anyone shooting outdoors or in changing light conditions. They are especially useful on sunny days but it is worth having them at night because of the risk of side light intrusions.
What are lens hoods?
A lens hood is attached to the end of the lens with a hook-and-loop fastener. It takes little time to assemble. Moreover, the cover can be folded to take up less space when not in use.
What is it used for?
• Prevents unwanted flare and glare.
• Improves overall image quality.
• Prevents erroneous sharpening of photos (when autofocus is blinded by the light).
• Protects against damage to the lens - scratches, dirt, dust, etc.
Always match a dedicated cover to the camera model you have. We have a wide range of covers available for Sony, Panasonic, Canon and JVC cameras.
Is a lens hood necessary?
Camcorder manufacturers often argue that lenses are coated with a small metallic layer that reflects the sunrays. This solution is to prevent unwanted lens flares and glares or sun flashes. However, in difficult weather conditions, each lens should be additionally equipped with a hood. Thus, to answer the question - yes, a lens hood is necessary for good quality recordings.
